This photograph was taken in June of 1962 by Swedish photographer Leif-Erik Nygårds. It is signed on the verso by the photographer and reads: "Marilyn Monroe photographed in Los Angeles at Bel Air Hotel, June 27th 1962, Leif-Erick Nygårds." According to Playboy Magazine, this photograph of Marilyn was the last photo of her taken by a professional photographer.
LEIF-ERIK NYGARDS (1939- ) Leif-Erik Nygårds was born in Stockholm and raised in Töcksfors, a small village on Sweden’s western border. Nygårds developed an interest in photography early on, and started his career in 1960 with a progressive group of Swedish photographers called Tio Fotografer (Ten Photographers). After six months with them he packed his bags and moved to New York City where he worked as an assistant to both Bert Stern and Irving Penn. Nygårds is known for a career of celebrity portraiture spanning four decades. His work has been published in magazines such as Life, Playboy, and Look.
